2004 Earth Day Clean-up
Sponsored By: NEA4WDC

Environmental Call to Action

The NorthEast Association of 4WD Clubs (NEA4WDC) held their fourth annual Earth Day Clean-up in Florida and North Adams Massachusetts! Several members gathered to clean up the Old Florida Rd. , which is often neglected by OHRVs and others, and East Housac Road.

The cleanup at both locations was very productive. There is still a lot of cleaning that needs to be done and Scott Hatch, the Association President, stated that the group will plan another date to continue the work. Scott extended his thanks to everyone who attended the cleanup and reported that there were at least eight-nine truckloads of trash removed from the land.

Both the town and Whitcomb Summit were impressed by the work that was accomplished and they were happy to see our dedication to cleaning the area. Whitcomb Summit has agreed to help with our work on other trails in the area.

Per the direction of the Association, the town clerk is going to be speaking to the Board of Selectmen about a specific area of the trail that appears to be a dumping area by local town residents. One Association member stated that there was one section of embankment where there was miles and miles of trash. People have thrown away computers, tv's, large appliances, and scattered other small items of debris around.

One of the areas focused on was a town memorial and our work at this location impressed the local Historical Society.

Everyone involved had a good day and they all went home with a feeling of accomplishment knowing that they did a good deed for the environment and for their sport.
